If you’re planning on heading to the 154th annual Haliburton County Fair on June 9 you may have a superhero sighting.

This year’s fair will feature much of the traditional line-up of fun with some new highlights including the first ever Minden Comic Con.

The comic event is available at no extra cost as it falls under the fair’s general admission. It is geared to all age groups.

“I can hardly wait to see it” said county fair board vice-president Cathy Fisher.

Fisher is excited about the Comic Con portion and all that’s in store for this year’s fair goers.

The fair will feature an afternoon of live music by local musicians including Trina West Bill Candy Algonquin Highlands Jazz Quartet County Road One and Northbourne. The music starts at noon and plays until close.

There will be demonstrations throughout the day including a plowing match MNRF firefighting the Haliburton County Farmer’s Association pony rides a mutt show wildlife rescue show and display  and a craft beer tent.

“All these things are free once you pay your admission to get into the fair” said Fisher.

The fair will also have the Re/Max hot air balloon from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. offering free rides.

Younger children will enjoy face painting bouncy castles inflatable rides and the Dalrymple Rabbitry exhibit which allows them to hold rabbits.

“We have a lady coming from Renfrew that has six miniature horses” said Fisher. “She’s going to be demonstrating the unicorn the tandem … throughout the day.”

Fisher stressed that the event is affordable family fun and that visitors are even allowed to bring in their own food to the fair.

On June 8 there is a beef barbecue dinner fundraiser for the fair at the community centre featuring live music by band Bar Haven. Tickets for the dinner are $25 for adults $15 for kids 12 and under and free for children six and under.

Admission for the fair is $10 for adults and $7 for kids 12 and under. A family pass is $25 and covers two adults and two children.

The fair takes place at the Minden Fairgrounds located on Bobcaygeon Road.

Rough camping is also available on Thursday Friday and Saturday for $40 per trailer (this does not include your general admission to the fair).
