The following are brief reports of items discussed during a May 11 meeting of Minden Hills council.
Carl Dixon who played for a time with The Guess Who will bring the songs of the iconic Canadian rock band to Minden’s Canada Day celebrations.
Councillors agreed to approve a contract that includes a $5000 fee two round-trip airfares from Winnipeg to Toronto up to three hotel or motel rooms for the night before the show or day of the concert the provision of sound equipment and hot dinners for six people the day of the concert.
Funding will come from a few sources including a grant from Haliburton County and the township’s general promotions reserve account.
The five-piece band will put on a 90-minute show.
Emergency replacement of culvert
The township will pay approximately $43000 for the emergency replacement of a large culvert along Bobcaygeon Road north of Minden.
Part of the culvert had rotted out and the infrastructure gave way during recent flooding.
The cost will be offset by any surplus resurfacing funds the cancellation of a road needs study request for proposals and reserve funds if required.
Province recommends flushing program
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is recommending that Minden Hills institute a flushing program for the water system at the Lutterworth Pines development south of Minden.
“The owner has not implemented a program for the flushing of water mains as per industry standards” a report from the ministry reads. “The Lutterworth Pines distribution system does contain fire or flushing hydrants. The operating authority reported that water mains are flushed for approximately 10 minutes during bi-weekly distribution chlorine residual measurements. Flushing activities are not formally recorded.”
Windows and doors
The township will award the contract for new entrance doors and windows at the Minden Hills Community Centre to K Enterprises for just less than $40000.
The provision of new doors at the Scout Hall will also be awarded to K Enterprises for approximately $12000.
CAO evaluation
Council decided that the evaluation of the township’s chief administrative officer its head staff member will be done by the personnel committee. The personnel committee consists of Reeve Brent Devolin Deputy-reeve Cheryl Murdoch and Councillor Jeanne Anthon.
