New HVAC company opens doors

By Chad Ingram

Kieran Gillooly brings 15 years of experience in the heating and cooling industry with him as he opens his new business Northern HVAC Co.

“I got into it right after high school” says Gillooly from his home office near Halls Lake in Algonquin Highlands. “I basically do everything in the HVAC spectrum.”

Among the services he offers are furnace work ductwork work on boilers fireplaces air conditioning gas piping hot water tanks and heat pumps as well as chimneys.

“I need to do it for myself” Gillooly who most recently worked for another local HVAC company says of his decision to strike out on his own. “I’m creating the path for my kids to follow.”

“Our son likes to do everything his dad does” says Gillooly’s wife Kayla who’ll be running the business alongside her husband.

“I see it as a family business” Gillooly says. “I couldn’t have done it without Kayla she’s really kind of taken the reins.”

A Facebook page Kayla has set up for the company already has hundreds of followers and she uses social media to promote the business and connect with customers. To mark the opening of the business the couple did a draw for a $100 Visa gift card live on Facebook.

“We did the draw live and a local lady from Kinmount won it” Kayla says.

Anyone who attended the Haliburton or Minden Santa Claus parades this past weekend may have seen the Northern HVAC Co. float and anyone who snapped a photo of the float tagging the business on social media had their name entered into a draw for a Christmas basket.

The community and being a part of it is important to the couple. A couple of years ago Gillooly experienced a brain bleed following a baseball injury.

“Everyone was there for us” Kayla says and as a way of saying thank you Gillooly donated his time to install the heating system at the Haliburton Youth Wellness Hub. The couple plan to give away a turkey to a family in need in December.

Northern HVAC Co. also offers a seniors’ discount of 20 per cent off for those 65 and older with Kayla noting they realize the constraints of living on a fixed income.

“Eventually I’ll have employees but I’m going to stay small” Gillooly says adding he doesn’t expect to have more  than a few employees alongside himself. He’s willing to travel up to about an hour and 45 minutes so along with Haliburton County will provide service in Muskoka Bancroft and other areas.
