Two more candidates enter provincial race

H aliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock has two more candidates for the June 7 provincial election bringing the total number of candidates in the riding to seven.

Lynn Therien will run for the Ontario Green Party and Tom Rhyno will run under the banner of the None Of The Above (NOTA) party.

According to a social media post Therien will prioritize support and stable funding for indigenous friendship centres across Ontario; nurture strong relationships with indigenous communities in my riding; and commit to the ongoing learning process of indigenous cultural competency.

According to its website the NOTA party “is part of a worldwide movement of new and independent parties and candidates campaigning for direct democracy and voter empowerment policies supported by voters and non-voters alike.”

According to the website Rhyno is a military veteran and tradesperson currently living in Woodville.

Other candidates include Laurie Scott for the PC party; Zac Miller for the NDP; Brooklynne Cramp-Waldinsperger for the Liberals; Libertarian candidate Gene Balfour; and Chuck MacMillan of the Consensus Ontario party.

An all-candidates’ meeting will take place at the Pinestone on Monday May 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.
