Arf force one brings Lux to Minden

Some dogs are able to fly.

The Canadian Wings of Rescue is a volunteer run federally registered charity that operates all over Canada. Canadian Wings of Rescue works with rescues, shelters, wildlife rehabilitation centres, and pilots all over Canada to arrange short flights with volunteer pilots. Canadian Wings of Rescue has been operating for eleven years, with operations ceasing during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, Canadian Wings of Rescue’s operations began again.

On Aug. 11 of this year, Lux, a three-year-old shepherd/poodle mix arrived at Snowflake Meadows in Minden. Lux has had a long journey getting here. She was relinquished to New Hope Dog Rescue from her owner after they experienced homelessness in Thunder Bay. With an ever increasing number of dogs in their shelter, New Hope Dog Rescue sought for Lux to travel somewhere that had enough space and increase Lux’s chance of getting adopted. Canadian Wings of Rescue connected New Hope Dog Rescue with Gerd Wengler, a volunteer pilot. Wengler intended on flying Lux to the local Stanhope Airport, but had to land in Muskoka due to inclement weather. Lux was then picked up at the Muskoka Airport.

Since arriving, Lux has managed to gain 7 lbs.

“Lux is a giant fluff ball,” said Kristyn Begbie, founder of Snowflake Meadows Animal Rescue. “She is a sweet, gentle old soul with a lot of love to offer. She loves her jolly ball, running in the yard, snuggling on the sofa with the kids, and going for long walks. She is eager to please and a fast learner.”

Lux is currently seeking her forever home. She is seeking someone that is gentle with her and enjoys having a companion for long hikes or walks. She thinks there is nothing greater than sleeping on her dog bed and greeting you when you get home from work. She is great with kids and other dogs as well.

Canadian WIngs of Rescue not only assists pets, but wildlife as well. In July of this year, two horned owls were flown from Thunder Bay to Niagara in order for them to be rehabilitated Flying animals towards medical services and partnering rescues like Snowflake Meadows saves crucial time and stress on animal transportation. Flying Lux shaved off over 10 hours of driving time. Canadian Wings of Rescue would not be possible without their volunteers and donations from the public. Donations can be made to Canadian Wings of Rescue through www.canadahelps.org. Donations help pay for food, toys, and comfort for animals travelling with the charity. The charity is entirely volunteer run.
