The support staff represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation are the most recent group to announce escalated job action following a media release on Sept. 30.

Talks between the union representing the support staff which includes educational assistants office and clerical staff custodians etc. and the provincial government and the Council of Trustees’ Associations broke off at the end of September said OSSTF spokesperson Lori Foote.

“We do not have any dates scheduled at this point in time” she said.

Escalated job action started on Oct. 5 and will include administrative tasks.

“They’re still going to do voluntary things” said Foote. “There’s still extra-curriculars for those who participate.”

The job action was announced following a meeting of union leaders according to the release.

“This bargaining process has been underway for well over a year now and our members are extremely frustrated that they are still waiting for a settlement” said OSSTF/FEESO president Paul Elliott in the release.

Members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario are also without a contract and have escalated job action during the past number of weeks. Talks between ETFO and the province resumed last week after a weeks-long standstill.

Secondary school teachers ratified their agreement with the province on Sept. 18.
