Partridge county warden for 2018

Longtime Highlands East Deputy-mayorand county politician Suzanne Partridge will be Haliburton Countywarden for 2018.

County chief administrative officerMike Rutter announced during a Nov. 22 council meeting thatPartridge was the sole nominee under a new election process forwarden.

The warden is the head of countycouncil county council comprised of the mayors and deputy-mayors ofeach of the county's four lower-tier townships. County councillorselect a warden each year from among themselves that individualrepresenting the county at a provincial level.

Traditionally nominations for wardenhave been made from the floor during an annual inauguration meeting.Traditionally only one name is put forward. And while both mayorsand deputy-mayors may become warden the position typically goes toone of county's four mayors.

County council enacted a new processfor the election of warden this year where interested individualshad to submit nomination forms by a Nov. 15 deadline. Following thathad there been more than one nominee councillors would have held anelection.

Partridge will be sworn in as warden onTuesday Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. in county council chambers on NewcastleStreet in Minden.

A municipal politician for nearly 20years Partridge was reeve of Cardiff prior to amalgamation.
