Over the week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 Haliburton Highlands OPP responded to 87 calls with issues including traffic complaints neighbour disputes domestic disputes and animal complaints. There were 23 vehicle collisions and three of those involved deer. Officers conducted five RIDE checks.
On Feb. 4 shortly after 6 a.m. members of the Haliburton Highlands detachment of the OPP responded to a report of a black pick-up truck in the ditch on Highway 118 near Queens Line in the Township of Algonquin Highlands. Officers attended the scene and upon speaking with the driver the officers determined that he had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation a 56-year-old man from Mississauga has been charged with driving while impaired and with too much alcohol in his blood.
A 90-day driver’s licence suspension was issued and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on March 7.
On Feb. 3 shortly after midnight members from the Haliburton Highlands OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on County Road 21 at Soyers Lake Road in the Township of Dysart et al. A silver SUV entered the RIDE spot check and an officer spoke to the driver and determined that he had been consuming alcohol. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension. This resulted in an automatic three-day licence suspension for a 55-year-old man from Wilmot Township.
