Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP and Ontario Labour Minister Laurie Scott is keeping her labour portfolio amid a number of changes in high-profile cabinet positions during a shuffle by Premier Doug Ford which took place Monday morning.

The shuffle was seemingly spurred by the Nov. 2 announcement from Economic Development Minister Jim Wilson that he was resigning from cabinet and caucus to seek treatment for addiction issues. Wilson MPP for Grey Simcoe has sat in Queen’s Park since 1990 and was the most experienced member of Premier Ford’s cabinet.

PC House Leader Todd Smith who had been minister of consumer services will take over Wilson’s portfolio with Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker appointed to cabinet to take over Smith’s previous portfolio.

Renfrew-Nippising-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski who had been transportation minister was moved to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry while Jeff Yurek MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London who had been MNRF minister was shifted to the transportation file.

Vaughan-Woodbridge MPP Michael Tibollo who’d been community safety and correctional services minister was given the portfolio of tourism culture and sport while Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones who had been on the tourism culture and sport file  took Tibollo’s previous post.

Numerous reports of Tibollo’s alleged involvement in a 1990s Ponzi scheme have surfaced in the past week and Tibollo’s head staffer resigned just days before the cabinet shuffle.

Ford’s director of policy Andrew Kimber has also resigned his post.

The cabinet shuffle comes four months into Ford’s time as premier. Former premier Kathleen Wynne made her first cabinet shuffle after one a year and two months as did former premier Mike Harris. Former premier Dalton McGuinty made his first cabinet shuffle after one year and eight months.
