Monday morning (Dec. 5) as I pull out onto Highway 35 at Moore Falls I wonder where are the snow plows?  I turn on my local radio station and I’m told that there is a traffic problem at Miners Bay and Highway 35 and that the highway is impassable.

As I approach Miners Bay cautiously I see that there is a tractor trailer sitting in the southbound lane facing northbound.  In the northbound lane there are two other tractor trailers waiting to go up the hill.  I travelled up the hill myself in my AWD vehicle and when I get to the top of the hill I notice that in the southbound lanes there is a line up of traffic which includes a Carillion snow plow and a Carillion pick up truck (which might I add is being towed out of the ditch). What a mess! Needless to say the rest of my drive to work from Miner’s Bay to Minden was treachous! The highway had maybe one pass by the snow plow at 8 am that morning.

I’m pretty sure the snow had stopped at least by 6 a.m. that morning so why wasn’t the highway cleared properly?  Was it because the snow plow wasn’t able to make it down the hill at Miners Bay because of the tractor trailer that was blocking his way? But really I would have thought that by 8 a.m. Monday morning that Highway 35 would have had at least two passes with the snow plow by then! Does something more serious then this scenario have to happen before the province wakes up and realizes that Highway 35 in the Highlands is in serious trouble? What has to happen? Does a serious accident where our loved ones are killed on  Highway 35have to happen before someone’s going to realize that there is a problem?

Enough please! Can someone help us?! This is a provincial highway and it’s being treated as a secondary side road! If you go to the Carillion Canada’s website they have a saying at the very top of the website: “Carillion Making tomorrow a better place.”

Where? Not here!
