To the Editor

It’s about the scarlet runner beans in the boxes on the street in Minden planted last spring by the ladies of the agricultural society providing us  with red eye-candy all summer. The passing bees always on the search for pollen were eager  visitors of the lovely blooms too.
Now it is time for harvest:  go for a stroll and come home with a handful of scavenged vegetables for  supper.  We thank the ladies and the ag society for their industry and foresight.
And then there are all the apples falling from trees hereabouts.   The volunteers at the Food Bank kitchen have been making a lifetime supply of apple sauce for the freezer using this abandoned Autumn crop windfalls picked up and delivered by a crew of self-appointed scavengers people who live in the community and who have learned the meaning of the word “conservation.” We thank them too.
Apparently the world has become a perilous place for humanity – too many people using up  too much of what there is.  It is time to be resourceful all of us.
