Minden man on sex offenders’ list

Minden man Keith Hirstwood has been sentenced to four and a half years of jail time and will be put on the sex offender registry for life.

In September of 2014 Hirstwood then 32 was charged with multiple sex-related offences including two counts of sexual assault two counts of sexual interference with a person under the age of 16 two counts of invitation to sexual touching with a person under the age of 16 and two counts of luring a person under the age of 16 by means of telecommunication.

Earlier this summer Hirstwood pled guilty to two counts of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching.

In a Lindsay courtroom on Aug. 21 Hirstwood was sentenced to 345 days of jail time on the first count of sexual interference 24 months on the second count and 18 months on the invitation to sexual touching to be served consecutively.

An order of prohibition under Section 161 of the criminal code means that for 10 years Hirstwood is not to enter a public park or swimming pool where people under the age of 16 can be reasonably expected to be; not to seek employment or volunteer in a capacity that puts him in contact with those under the age of 16; not to have contact with those under 16 unless approved by the court; and not use the Internet unless approved by the court.


Nor is Hirstwood to communicate with the victim(s).

Details of the case are subject to a publication ban.

Hirstwood was ordered to submit a DNA sample and will be placed on the sex offender registry for life.
