The Trillium Lakelands District School Board will discontinue special education at Minden’s Archie Stouffer Elementary School this fall.
The decision was made due to low enrolment in the program and the remaining students will attend classes at J.D. Hodgson Elementary School in Haliburton Village. While there were four students in the specialized classroom this past school year with two moving on to high school it leaves two students who will be bussed to JDHES.
“The classroom was amalgamated due to the low historical and prospective enrolment from the area” board communications officer Laura Blaker wrote in an email to the paper.
“We are pleased that current and future students from the ASES area can still access this specialized program at JDH.
“Transportation will be put in place for prospective students in the ASES
area to attend this specialized classroom.”
The teacher who’s been in charge of the classroom will return to another position within the board.
