Residents who may be receiving phonecalls looking for donations for Haliburton County's fire departmentsare being scammed.

“It has come to our attention that anorganization claiming to represent the local fire departments issoliciting funds over the phone” reads an email from the Townshipof Minden Hills. “Be advised the fire departments of HaliburtonCounty and the firefighters association do not use a telemarketingservice to seek donations over the phone. We remind residents toalways be vigilant and never give out personal information or moneyover the phone.”

Any residents who receive such a phonecall are encouraged to contact the OPP anti-fraud hotline at1-888-495-8501.
