Members of the Haliburton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to advise residents and travelers that a significant weather event is approaching the area.
Snow is expected to begin on Wednesday afternoon or evening, bringing hazardous conditions to the region. Snowfall amounts may reach up to 30-40 cm. Peak snowfall rates possibly exceeding 5 cm per hour. Near zero visibility at times in heavy snow and local blowing snow.
The snow is forecasted to continue through Thursday, with snowfall amounts potentially reaching up to 40 cm locally in the northern part of Haliburton County.
The Haliburton Highlands OPP is warning that the combination of significant snowfall and blowing snow will lead to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and stay informed of weather warnings. Avoid travel if possible.
Travel plans should be adjusted to account for these conditions. Allow extra time for travel and check road conditions before heading out. Slow down, plan, and prepare for delays. The conditions will not adapt to your driving, rather you must adapt to the conditions.
